I’ve been working in corporate communications, marketing and public relations for about 12 years. The truth behind this line of business is that words matter. Every endeavor – business, social causes, personal development, politics, war, peace – succeeds when true and purposeful words are chosen to move it into action. So, at the center of what I do is ensuring that words are being shared and discussed in a variety of mediums and platforms. If you don’t have the words down for what you do, for what you are passionate about or hang your reputation on, you just won’t be able to get far into where you want to go.
Another truth I’ve come to learn during my journey is the importance of relationships. It doesn’t matter how visible your company or non-profit is, if the work is not geared towards creating and nurturing relationships that are mutual in benefit (yes, you must be generous), then you won’t be able to get far into where you want to go.
Words and relationships. These are the two main ingredients and everything else (strategy, tactics, whatever) revolves around them, in my humble opinion at least.
So, on this blog I post about a variety of things related to what I do and how I approach my work. Things that resonate with me, and hopefully you too, or not. Things I learn and would like to share.
I currently work for Shell in the U.S., a really great energy company with a fascinating history, and I lead communications projects that tell the Shell story and build bridges with a variety of influential audiences. My focus is mainly on thought leadership communications and reputation in the area of energy and sustainability. I love that Shell is very active in the climate change arena and that I get to lend a hand in how leaders in the company engage in the energy and sustainability conversation.
I’m also a musician and photographer, places where I get a lot of inspiration for everything that I do and shape how I see things and change through life. I’m also a father and a husband, which are actually my most important achievements.
